ABA is an evidence based practice that uses positive reinforcement and data-driven strategies to encourage desired behaviors. FIREFLY’s ABA team includes both Registered Behaviour Analysts as well as Positive Behaviour Interventionists.
In partnership with the Ontario Autism Program, FIREFLY offers assessment, intervention, and treatment services for children and youth under 18 with (or suspected of having) an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis. Unsure if your child has autism? FIREFLY supports the Northwestern Ontario Autism Diagnostic Hub to help families determine if their child has autism.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes tools and strategies designed to help individuals with difficulties in spoken or written communication express themselves more easily. The AAC Clinic works to identify, recommend, and assist in securing funding for tools that support and/or supplement communication for children/youth.
The Blind Low Vision Early Intervention Program offers free services to families with children who have been diagnosed or are being diagnosed with a visual impairment. These services are available from birth to school entry. Specially trained Early Childhood Vision Consultants work with caregivers to create learning opportunities that support a child’s overall development.
Canada Prenatal and Nutrition Program supports include nutrition counselling, prenatal vitamins, food and food coupons, counselling in prenatal health and lifestyle, breastfeeding education and support, food preparation training, education and support on infant care and child development, and referrals to other agencies and services.
Coordinated Service Planning was created to support families with children/youth with multiple or complex special needs. Coordinated Service Planning is about linking you to services and ensuring that all the professionals involved with your family are working together as a team towards your family’s goals and that you are kept informed of what is going on at all times.
The Northwestern Ontario FASD Diagnostic Clinic, supported by FIREFLY, offers assessment and diagnostic services for individuals of all ages in the Kenora, Rainy River, Sioux Lookout, and Far North areas. The clinic provides pre- and post-assessment support, referrals to community services, and recommendations for caregivers and educators. It also supports community networking and offers training and consultation for professionals, including educators, social workers, and legal professionals.
Provides services for families with infants and children who have a developmental delay or disability or those children who may be at risk for developmental delay. Services are available in the communities of Dryden, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and surrounding areas.
Occupational therapists help infants, children, and youth become more independent and safe in daily activities at home, school, or in the community. They focus on tasks like eating, dressing, personal care, play, schoolwork, and daily chores. Therapists address challenges related to motor, cognitive, social-emotional, and sensory skills to improve success in these activities.
At FIREFLY, we understand that families and caregivers play a vital role in the treatment and planning for children and youth. Our services are designed to strengthen resilience and provide resources and support for caregivers of children and youth with physical or mental health challenges.

Physiotherapists help infants, children, and youth improve their gross motor skills and mobility. They assess movement, strength, posture, and range of motion, and provide strategies to help children navigate their environment. They also recommend mobility aids and equipment to support independence.

FIREFLY’s speech and language therapy services help prevent, identify, assess, and treat communication delays and disorders in children and youth. These services are provided by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and/or Communication Assistants (CAs).
