Circle of Security Parenting Program
Program offered in partnership with Kenora Association for Community Living
The COSP Program runs every Tuesday from April 30 to June 18 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in person at the Kenora FIREFLY Office, 820 A Lakeview Drive. This program is open to all parents and caregivers of young children.
The Circle of Security-Parenting™ Program offers caregivers new ways to understand their child(ren)’s needs by recognizing and responding to their cues. It helps shift focus from trying to change undesirable behaviours with rewards and punishment, to seeing that these behaviours are a way of communicating a need from a child falling somewhere in the circle.
The trained COSP facilitators will help caregivers feel confident to encourage their children to go out and explore the world, while simultaneously recognizing when they may need more interaction and potentially intervention. The program does not tell caregivers how to parent but helps them to better understand cues and the importance of their role as an attachment figure, meaning a person of safety and comfort that a child has a strong relationship with.
