What to Expect:
  • A developmental screen will be completed for the child with the parent/guardian in consultation with other members of the child’s team.
  • A family support meeting will be scheduled to review results of the developmental screen and facilitate family/caregiver’s decision-making around setting goals for the child.
  • A family support plan will be developed to identify family/caregiver needs, functional goals and strategies to meet the child’s developmental needs. Family goals will be maintained across different environments (child care & school).
  • If required, the ICD Consultant may refer to additional services for support.
  • Connecting with a Developmental Consultant can equip you with new skills and help you to identify the next developmental milestones and ways to encourage progression towards them.
  • Understanding your child’s development can identify a need for Early Intervention for areas that require additional support. Early Intervention can lessen the need for supports in school and later in life
  • Your Consultant can coach and support you in methods to achieving developmental goals to increase your comfort working on new skills with your child.
  • Your consultant can connect your child with additional supports and professionals who can specifically target areas requiring support.
