What We Do

FIREFLY is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors and is an accredited organization. Our team of skilled professionals works closely with children, youth, families, and care systems to achieve the best outcomes for young people and their families.

Our staff bring expertise from a variety of fields, including social work, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, developmental services, and early childhood education.

Our History

FIREFLY has a proud and progressive history with over 40 years of deep roots in the delivery of quality children’s services and supporting partnerships in care. The Lake of the Woods Child Development Centre began in 1976 as a small storefront service. In 1980, a neighbourhood house became home to the Patricia Centre for Children and Youth, which focused on early childhood services. Over the years, new programs were added and other programs joined to support a wide range of services.

In 2011, with the amalgamation of the Lake of the Woods Child Development Centre and the Patricia Centre for Children and Youth, our name changed to FIREFLY.

Today, FIREFLY is a leading provider of mainstream children’s services in the area with over 150 staff serving in communities across the Kenora and Rainy River Districts.
